Getting around in Sifnos
Getting to Piraeus from the Athens Airport

Getting to Sifnos

The main way to arrive to Sifnos is by ferry boat. There are 3 companies that run a ferry boat from Piraeus to Sifnos.

SeaJets runs the Champion Jet 2 ferry twice a day from Piraeus (on in the morning and one in the afternoon) and provides the faster option (2.5 hours). A one-way adult ticket costs €68.70

Aegean Sea Lines runs the ferry boat Anemos which takes about 5 hours to complete the journey from Piraeus to Sifnos. A one-way adult ticket costs €43.

Zente Ferries runs the ferry boat Dionisios Solomos (named after the poet who authored of the Greek national anthem) twice a day for 5 days week. Departures from Piraeus are at extreme hours. The 7 AM ferry takes 4.5 hours and costs €43.50 while the 10:30 PM departure takes 5 hours and costs €35.
If you are arriving from a different island, you can research itineraries using FerryHopper. However, we would recommend buying tickets directly from the ferry provider because, besides avoiding extra fees, this provides additional flexibility for ticket changes.

Getting around in Sifnos

Sifnos, like many cycladic island, has a range of diverse locations to visit, from sandy beaches to remote villages to rugged cliffs. Taxis and buses are available, but given their sparcity and unreliability, a car is the preferred way to fully enjoy what the island provides.Car rentals
It is recommended to reserve a car as early as possible, since availability is limited. Cars can be rented at Kamares (main port) and Apollonia (main town). If you are coming from outside of Europe, you should go to AAA and they can issue you an International license by showing your license.
Taxis
Taxis can be found at the main square in Apollonia and at the main port in Kamares. However, it might be challenging to find a taxi during the ferry arrival or departure rush, or during late hours. Alternatively, you can call a taxi for a pick up. You can also pre-arrange through your hotel. Nival, for instance, can also provide transport to the beach. For the night of dinner in Artemon, it is recommended to have the hotel drop you off at the entrance of Artemon to walk to the restaurant or you can do a leisurely stroll through Appolonia to Artemon.
Buses
There are buses that connect major destinations in Sifnos. For routes and schedules visit this link. Tickets cost from €2 to €2.50 and need to be purchased on the bus, therefore, it is necessary to carry exact change.

Getting to Piraeus

There are three public transportation options to get from the Athens international airport to the Piraeus Port. A detailed description is provided by the airport authority.Additionally, getting around Athens by ride-share is easy. Uber is available, but a better option is provided by FREENOW.

Where to Stay

We recommend staying in the towns of Apollonia or Artemon. These two towns are within walking distance of each other and provide a centrally located base to explore the rest of the island. Additionally, almost all of the nightlife on the island can be found in these two towns, so it is easier to enjoy without having to drive at night from and to a remote town.
